Abstract

This paper shows that early modern philosophy (17th-18th c.) occupies a very important place in the fifty years of existence of Philosophiques. It distinguishes three great periods, which grossly match the various editorial committees. From the creation in 1974 to 1983, some influent professors of the milieu are those who publish the —rather sporadic— contributions in early modern philosophy which we find in the journal. In the 1984-1997 time-period, under the influence on the committee of the specialist of political philosophy of the Enlightenment J. Boulad-Ayoub, a predominant place is now devoted to early modern studies. Even after the analytic turn of the editorial committee in 1998, Philosophiques presents itself as an international journal worthy to receive submissions from international researchers, and it regularly publishes important thematic issues in early modern philosophy led by the most influential Quebec scholars. Early modern philosophy in the continental tradition thus constitutes one of the most represented fields in the journal throughout its fifty first years, and it reflects on the influence of some professors in Quebec.
